The Iraqi government has reaffirmed its rejection of war and military escalation following attacks on Iraqi sites, during a security meeting chaired by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani.
The meeting, held at the Joint Operations Command headquarters, reviewed the security situation after several Iraqi locations were targeted, resulting in fatalities and injuries. Developments linked to the escalation following attacks on the Islamic Republic of Iran were also discussed.
According to an official statement, the meeting:
Rejected war and aggression in all forms.
Condemned attacks on Iraqi sites that caused casualties.
Denounced what it described as an unjustified attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran, affecting its people, sovereignty and constitutional institutions.
Warned against any violation of Iraq’s sovereignty, airspace or territory, including its use as a corridor or launch point for attacks on Iran.
Stressed that Iraqi land or territorial waters must not be used in a manner that draws the country into conflict.
Called for an immediate cessation of military operations and a return to dialogue and peaceful means under international law.
The government stated it would use all legal and internationally recognised means to safeguard Iraq’s security, stability and sovereignty. It also urged major powers, particularly the United States of America, to act responsibly and contribute to solutions away from military options.

The President of the Council of Ministers, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Mr. Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani, chaired a meeting today, Saturday, of military and security leadership at the headquarters of the Joint Operations Command, attended by: the Minister of Interior, the Chairman of the Popular Mobilization Authority, the Director of Intelligence, the Director of National Security, the Chief of Staff of the Army, the Director of the Counter-Terrorism Service, and the Deputy Commander of Joint Operations.
His Excellency was briefed on the security situation following the attacks that struck Iraqi sites, alongside developments and the escalation that accompanied the assault on the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The meeting reaffirmed Iraq’s position — as a government and as a people — rejecting the logic of war and aggression in all its forms, and warned of the consequences of the flagrant aggression that struck a number of Iraqi sites, resulting in the deaths of several martyrs and various casualties.
The meeting condemned the unjustified aggression being suffered by the Islamic Republic of Iran, and everything that threatens its people, its sovereignty, and its constitutional institutions.
The meeting renewed its warning against any violation of Iraq’s sovereignty, airspace, or territory, or their use as a corridor or launching point for attacks against Iran, just as it rejects Iraq’s land or territorial waters being made a cause for dragging Iraq into the conflict. The government will resort to all means available under international law and norms to protect Iraq’s security, stability, and sovereignty.
The meeting affirmed Iraq’s position on the necessity of an immediate halt to military operations and recourse to dialogue and the peaceful means provided by international law to resolve international problems. The meeting noted that the entire region risks sliding into incalculable consequences, and that major powers — foremost among them the United States of America — must demonstrate a spirit of responsibility and contribute effectively to finding solutions away from the military option.
The meeting affirmed that the firm, principled, and constitutional position to which Iraq is committed — rejecting non-peaceful means in dealing with disputes and crises — is a position chosen by our people across all its segments, groups, and spectrums, and one to which all national and political forces have collectively pledged their adherence.
