A father ventured to West Yorkshire’s sole remaining Wimpy branch to discover whether the legendary burger chain lived up to his 1990s memories.
The content creator, who goes by Just Deano, was swept up in nostalgia as he entered the Cloth Hall Street restaurant in his native Huddersfield. While he’d popped in for breakfast two years prior, it had been decades since he’d sampled their famous hamburgers.
Addressing his 39,300 followers, he explained: “You guys know my favourite burger joint is Five Guys — but it is so expensive these days! I am going to see if this is 90s prices, 90s quality, that sort of thing.”
Regrettably for Deano, 1990s pricing was nowhere to be found, though by his video’s conclusion he conceded he could have exercised greater restraint when ordering.
Wimpy originated in America before collapsing during the 1970s — yet managed to thrive in locations beyond the Atlantic. Today, however, just 61 outlets are thought to remain across the UK.

Deano brought his daughter along and they purchased two burgers, chicken strips, mozzarella melts, six onion rings and steakhouse seasoned chips. They also added desserts alongside a milkshake and a Pepsi float.
Standing outside the establishment, he disclosed the total cost, stating: “That was the famous 1990s classic Wimpy burger. And the price of that one, in total, was £47.60!
“The patties for me were not really the best quality but it was a super fresh burger. It is somewhere between the quality of Burger King patty and a McDonald’s patty.
“My quarter pounder bacon cheeseburger was quite nice, very very fresh, I enjoyed it, it was £7.85 though…”
He then raised his eyebrows, highlighting his surprise, before repeating: “£7.85.”

Nevertheless, he went on to say: “Overall, £47.60 is a lot of money. But you have to remember, this is a lot more than two people’s meals. We could have skipped the onion rings and the mozzarella sticks. You don’t have to get all that and it’s a lot cheaper if you get a normal drink instead of a massive milkshake and a float.
“You can make it a bit more budget friendly. Not quite the Wimpy’s 90s budget that it would have been. I wonder if they ever do a day, I mean they won’t, but I wonder if they ever do a day like in the pubs where they’re putting the prices back to the 1990s price.”
His final verdict was seven-and-a-half out of 10, with the onion rings proving the “biggest disappointment and let-down” due to them not being homemade.

While the beef didn’t particularly impress him, he praised the “proper bacon” in his burger and noted that both the salad and his entire meal were fresh. The chicken strips proved particularly impressive.
After sampling them earlier in the video, he remarked: “Oh wow. Super fresh. Red hot. Nice bit of chicken in there, nice seasoning on the coating, very crispy, not processed at all. Proper nice chicken.
“I know it’s probably simple to get right, but so many people get it wrong, it could be dry. The chicken there is nice and moist. Fantastic.”
Following his meal, he proclaimed he’d enjoyed one of the finest cheesecakes of his entire life.

The raspberry cheesecake, served with white chocolate pieces and strawberry sauce, was described as tasting “unbelievable”.
Following the video’s publication, one viewer responded: “1990s? I remember it from the 1970s, when it was at its peak of popularity. Loved it.”
Someone else commented: “I’m a child of the 70s and visited this Wimpy a couple of years ago. It was lovely.”
A third nostalgic fan added: “I always loved a Wimpy, childhood memories. the special sauce on quarter pounder is legendary. Hope they stay going for more years to come.”
