The musical theatre star is gearing up for her third time performing at Dublin’s Bord Gais Energy Theatre later this year, this time playing the lead role of Jenna in Waitress

Carrie Hope Fletcher wants to work with her famous brother Tom in the future – and has teased exciting projects.

The West End star enjoys a hugely successful career in her own right as one of musical theatre’s best loved actresses.

Talent clearly runs in the family as her brother is none other than Tom Fletcher of McFly fame.

Carrie and Tom have always pursued their own paths, but the singer says she would love to collaborate with her brother.

Carrie told RSVP Live: “There has definitely been some crossover. When I was in my teens Tom would always ask me to sing on demos of songs he had written for a female voice.

“We did write a musical together when I was about 17. It got shelved, we never really did anything with it.

“But we spent a good few years workshopping it and seeing where it could go. So maybe we could dig that out at some point again.

“We talk about it all the time and say we should do some projects together, and we have the beginnings of things that we’ve started and then have been dragged away to do other stuff, but our time will come I’m sure.

“He’s got three boys, and I’ve got my little girl so it’s chaos to say the least.

“It means when we do see each other we just want to have a cup of tea and a chat, and let the kids run around the garden.”

Tom is the man behind the music of the latest West End success, Paddington The Musical.

Carrie has starred in numerous musicals including Les Miserables, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Cinderella to name but a few, but could we see her in Paddington?

“I mean give it a few years maybe but I definitely have the mindset that this is Tom’s project,” she told us.

“There’s got to be a separation there.

“It’s going nowhere. That show has set itself up and will be there for years and years to come.

“It’s so wholesome and I feel there are so few shows that are that innocent and pure and about the kindness of strangers.

“I’m biased, because my brother wrote the music, but I’ve always known he is a songwriting genius, so I was completely unsurprised when I saw it and heard banger after banger.”

While Tom is enjoying success with Paddington The Musical, Carrie is currently touring with smash hit musical Waitress, which comes to Dublin’s Bord Gais Energy Theatre this May.

Carrie is taking on the lead role of Jenna and says being part of this show as a mum adds a whole new emotional dimension.

She said: “This is my first time being in the show.

“I auditioned for it in 2018, the first year it came to the West End, but I wasn’t successful.

“I’ve been a fan of the show since the first cast recording album dropped. I was there on press night and fell completely in love with it.

“When the opportunity arose to be part of the production this time round, I could not have been more enthusiastic about it.

“I’m a mum now myself, and having had the lived experience of having a daughter adds a layer of magic.”

This will be Carrie’s third time performing at the Bord Gais Energy Theatre and she is excited to return to Dublin.

She explained: “I came with The Addams Family in 2017 and just last year with Calamity Jane.

“I love Dublin. It’s always one of those cities where everybody breathes a sigh of relief when they get there.

“The theatre is just so beautiful, the surrounding area is gorgeous and the city is so much fun to explore.

“This time, I want to see the Book of Kells because everytime I remember I try to book it and it’s booked out.

“Temple Bar is a classic. When people come to London they want to do the London Eye, it’s the same kind of thing. It’s a must.”

Waitress comes to Bord Gais Energy Theatre, May 19th – 23rd. Visit www.bordgaisenergytheatre.ie for tickets.
