What is the future for Your Party in Scotland after mass resignations?

One of the sticking points the activists say they had was being “blocked” from contesting the upcoming Holyrood election.

They also say that the sole Scottish representative on the UK-wide central executive committee (CEC), Niall Christie, has been “consistently excluded and overruled without any basis.”

The Your Party Scotland group claimed to have been “ignored” and said that a political party in Scotland being “dictated” to by England was “absurd” and “anti-democratic.”

A joint statement by the outgoing Scottish leadership committee finished by saying: “As a result of this consistent denial of autonomy for Scotland, and a willingness by the UK leadership to sideline an entire nation by withholding funding and mailing lists and refusing to engage, we have, after careful thought and consideration, taken the collective decision to resign our positions on the interim Scottish executive committee, having found ourselves completely blocked when we attempted to carry out the clear mandate set for us by members from across Scotland.”

Christie shared the news after he had raised “significant concerns” about the party and had been prevented from putting forward measures to allow the Scottish party to contact members.

The group now say they’ll set up a rival outfit, but what does that mean for Your Party Scotland?

In the fallout from the Scottish team’s implosion, Your Party has denied that this is the end of the party’s arm north of the border and claims to already be working on a new iteration.

A Your Party spokesperson said: “We thank Niall and members of the volunteer interim committee for their contribution to support members in Scotland at an early stage of the Party’s development.

“We understand these members disagreed with the vote taken by Scottish members not to stand candidates for the upcoming Holyrood elections. That is their right.

“Following our executive committee’s decision earlier this month, Your Party has already begun the work of establishing a Scottish Nations Working Group through sortition, ensuring a representative body drawn from across the whole membership in Scotland.

“This approach is about strengthening participation, transparency and long-term stability. It creates the conditions for meaningful member engagement, the development of Scottish branch structures, and the preparation of elections for a permanent Scottish Executive Committee the democratic structures that Scottish members voted for and deserve.

“Every decision about Your Party in Scotland will be taken by members in Scotland.

“We understand there are differing views during a period of transition. Our responsibility is to put in place clear, fair and workable structures that serve all members in Scotland, and we remain committed to doing so.”

Christie responded to the statement released by the party and said: “If you think members in Scotland only left because of the elections – which they voted to stand in by the way – you have bigger problems than I thought.”

Your Party was announced in July 2025 by Jeremy Corbyn and fellow MP Zarah Sultana after both left Labour’s parliamentary whip.

Corbyn and Sultana are MPs alongside Ayoub Khan and Shockat Adam. There are no confirmed Your Party‑branded councillors in office; several independent ex‑Labour councillors (for example, in Islington) have indicated plans to stand under the Your Party banner in the 2026 local elections, but they are not yet elected on that label.

Your Party Scotland members voted by 54% to 46% against standing candidates in the Holyrood election in a vote which took place just five days before the deadline to stand candidates.

The Your Party spokesperson added: “Scottish members remain full members of Your Party.

“We will be in touch directly with updates on the Nations Working Group and next steps in the coming days.”
