,,Masked man smashes front door and window with hammer
A masked hammer-wielding vandal is believed to have targeted more homes in Wirral. Last week, the ECHO shared chilling footage of a masked man who unleashed an early morning attack with a hammer on a family’s home. It now appears, a number of properties could have been targeted by the same culprit.
Amelia Jones was in bed at her home on Rocklands Avenue in New Ferry, where she lives with her mum, dad and older sister at around 4.30am on Friday, April 10 when she was woken by her sister, who saw their glass on the front door was being smashed in.
The attack was caught on ring doorbell camera footage, which shows a man, wearing a balaclava, attacking the door and the window with a hammer before fleeing on a bike.

The family has no idea who was behind the incident. The fact the man left without trying to break into the house led Amelia to believe the attacker was sending out some form of warning.
Merseyside Police issued an appeal for information, urging people to call 101 or DM @MerpolCC on social media quoting reference number 26000284676.
Two days earlier, an attack on a New Ferry home by a masked hammer-wielding thug was also reported to police. Kay Jackson told the ECHO how a masked man entered her garden and smashed three of her kitchen windows with a hammer.
She said: “This is the second time it has happened to us. We have lived in the house for three years. The first time it happened was around six weeks after we moved in. We were told by the police at the time that it could have been linked to the previous tenants.
“We’ve had CCTV fitted since we moved in and have videos and pictures of both incidents. We don’t have any problems with anyone, we’re shocked it’s happened to us again. It’s just not fair, we work hard to keep a nice home for our family and someone thinks they can just do this and get away with it.”

In videos of the incident, at around 5.30am on Wednesday, April 8, seen by the ECHO, a man lets himself into the garden through a gate. He then appears to hit the windows at the back of the property with an object, before leaving through the same gate. Pictures show the damage caused to the windows. Police believe the incidents could be “potentially linked.”
Following the spate of attacks, Neighbourhood Inspector Nicola Hughes said: “We are aware of three incidents in the New Ferry and Bebington areas which happened between April 8 and April 10, and which are potentially linked.
“To have your property targeted in such a way causes stress and inconvenience in our communities and we will continue to act on new information to identify those responsible. Door-to-door, CCTV and doorbell enquiries have been carried out, and I’d ask that anyone the area speaks to police and checks their devices regularly, as having CCTV, dashcams and doorbell devices installed can act as a deterrent, as well as providing vital evidence.
“We’re also aware of other previous incidents discussed on social media, which may not have been reported at the time. Please come forward with any information, either directly to police or anonymously via Crimestoppers. You can direct message us, which takes the same time to do as a Facebook comment but also ensures we are putting our resources in the right places.”
