A woman has described what it’s really like to be a professional psychic medium. From predicting the future to connecting with spirits, there are some important things she wants you to know about her vocation.
Indigo Amy Packman, known as Indigo Psychic in her viral videos on TikTok, from Bristol, said she has always been connected to the spirit world. When she was growing up, some people thought this was purely her imagination running wild but, over the years, she mentioned she has learnt from a broad variety of teachers how she connects with the spiritual realm.
Now 49, she has been working as a full-time professional psychic and medium since 2021. Before this, she worked in other jobs, with the public and showing compassion.
She had been a personal assistant and carer in the years prior; however, she was always training, and learning how to develop her skills further. In many ways, she thinks it was meant for her.
She was only 16 when she was handed her first set of Tarot cards from a stranger, who simply said to her “there comes a time when things need to be passed on”, and she has continued to meet people who have helped to guide her throughout her understanding of the spirit world and occult.
You could say, in many ways, she thinks her life path has led her to where she’s meant to be. Today she feels she’s finally in the right place, as she believes she helps people seek answers, direction and to connect with loved ones who are now in the “spirit world”.
She said she felt it was a “calling”(Image: Indigo Psychic)
“I believe it was a calling,” she explained. Talking about when she was growing up, she added: “I was always daydreaming.
“I was away with the fairies. I was considered dopey. Now I can switch between daydreaming and being present in real life.”
She also claims she feels things deeply when she connects with spirits. This is something that always stood out as a different quality for Indigo.
Speaking about how spirits connect, she explained: “They show themselves through feeling, images and memories. I feel things.
“For example, when I was giving a reading recently, it felt like my teeth were falling out. The client said ‘my dad lost all his teeth before he died’.”
However, the road to get where she is hasn’t always been easy for Indigo. There were times when even her parents were sceptical about what she does for a living.
Though Indigo has mentioned she is not following any religion or dogma, she follows some Pagan beliefs of everything having importance, especially nature. She does not have any rituals or fixed beliefs.
Life evolves and so does our understanding of it, she said. Her parents were originally concerned of her way of life, but then things changed, as she stated “my parents are now actually following the Pagan ways like myself.”
It wasn’t until they witnessed Indigo at work during a public mediumship demonstration that their minds started to change. At the end of the event her dad, who was always terrified of the mediumship, simply turned to her, and said: “I don’t know how you did that, but it was amazing!”

Over the years, she has also worked to deepen her understanding of Shamanism, which is considered the world’s oldest spiritual practice. It’s characterised by the belief that practitioners (Shamans) can interact with the spirit world.
“I have given easily over 30,000 readings since 2006,” added Indigo. Generally people go to her for two different things.
Psychic readings that answer questions, give guidance and reassurance or Mediumship which brings healing, clarity and closure. According to Indigo, her psychic readings can help people gain insights by channelling information, energy and accessing intuition.
She offers guidance on various aspects of life from relationships to careers and personal growth. Indigo’s personal and professional ethics does not allow her to give readings on legal, health or financial advice.
Meanwhile, Mediumship is the practice of communicating with spirits from the spiritual realm. She explained mediums serve as intermediaries and convey messages and insights to people seeking guidance or connection.
Indigo said: “Sometimes people feel stuck. There may be a big decision to make. It could be because they feel uncertain. During times of feeling at a crossroads there is always an action that is needed to be taken to move forward.
“It can be, quite frankly, due to boredom. They feel they are not happy in themselves.”

For those who have never had a reading, she admitted it can often be something people don’t understand until they sit for a reading. “There are some people who don’t believe it, and I understand why they don’t”, she added.
“There are so many fraudsters. The fraudsters are really what you want to avoid.” However, Indigo says it’s not about forcing people to believe, as they should make up their own minds about whether the experience is for them.
For her, it’s simply about giving people the choice. When lockdown hit during the pandemic, she said she noticed many people were keen to connect.
When people couldn’t see their loved ones, she hosted “virtual churches” and said there was a “massive interest” in the services she offers. Perhaps this was expected at a time when so many people were looking for answers and comfort.
Even so, she said some people can still have misconceptions about the term “psychic”. This may be because it wasn’t until 1951 that people were legally allowed to give psychic and mediumship readings, provided they were not being deliberately fraudulent and didn’t act with intent to deceive for financial gain.
Indigo admitted her father said “you can’t do that, what will people think?” when she told him she was going to call herself Indigo Psychic about two decades ago – a name that has helped her attract over 120,000 followers on TikTok.
“It wasn’t that long ago that we couldn’t practice mediumship,” she added. “You always have some level of people who don’t understand.
“They say ‘you are pedalling off people’s grief’, but you could say that about florists and undertakers. What we offer is a choice.
“I know people who didn’t believe who have booked a reading and then seen a whole different perspective of life and transformed into more positive minded characters. I don’t convince people to believe. That’s for them to decide.”
