Asda is bringing back its ‘Winter Warmer’ scheme across 212 cafés from today (November 1) until the end of February 2026. The offer enables anyone over 60 to enjoy soup, bread and unlimited tea or coffee for just £1 during the colder months.

Shoppers can select between tomato or chicken soup as part of the seasonal programme. They can also enhance the meal deal to include a small latte, cappuccino, or speciality tea for an additional 55p, or upgrade to a medium for £1.10.

Last year, Asda’s Winter Warmer project delivered a remarkable half a million £1 meals to pensioners. Its 2025 comeback arrives as millions of older adults are reducing spending on essentials amid increased financial pressures.

In light of the initiative, Jordan Cummings, Buying Manager, Cafes and Concessions at Asda, said: “We know winter is set to be incredibly hard for thousands of pensioners as they continue to worry about how to keep themselves warm in the face of rising living costs and on a fixed income. Last year alone we sold over half a million meals showing the vital need for this initiative.”

Earlier this year, research from Age UK disclosed that over two million older adults had reduced spending on food and groceries due to concerns about living costs. Around five million people also decreased their home’s heating, representing a 38% increase since 2024.

Beyond easing monetary strain, Asda’s scheme aims to tackle isolation over the festive period. The retailer’s own studies reveal that one in 10 elderly people are uncertain whether they will have conversations with anyone between December 15 and January 1.

Mr Cummings continued: “By bringing Winter Warmers back this November, we hope it will continue to be just as impactful across the winter months for those who need it most, as well as offering a relaxed social environment to come and chat to others.”
