Can you make a difference to a dog this year?

Dog is man’s best friend, or so the old saying goes, and these canines want to find a new family full of pals they can love and care for in 2026.

Thousands of dogs are given up or abandoned each year, and thankfully we have local charities that come to their aid to try and find them suitable new homes

The Coventry and District Branch of the RSPCA and Dogs Trust Kenilworth are just two such charities desperate to match a pooch with the right family – we’ve listed some of them below.

RSPCA Coventry said: “Arrow is our big bouncy boy who came into us through no fault of his own. As he is still young and energetic, Arrow will need his own private and secure garden with 6ft+ fencing to play and zoom around in.

“Arrow could live with children aged 10+ that are used to big bouncy dogs. Could you offer Arrow his forever home?”

Ketchup

“Meet Ketchup our special sensitive boy who is looking for a quiet and consistent home where he can continue to build his confidence in a safe and comfortable space,” RSPCA Coventry say. “Ketchup will need a secure and private garden with 6ft fencing he can zoom around in with her toys and relax in the sun.

“He finds meeting new people daunting and he isn’t keen on other dogs so his new family will need to be able to walk him in quieter areas where he won’t come in contact with other people or dogs.

“Ketchup has come on such a long way but he still has more he needs to learn so his new family will need to be keen to continue his positive reinforcement training in all areas and introducing him to new experiences in a gradual and force free way.

“He does enjoy his walks and exploring quieter areas, therefore his new family will need to be fairly active and able to offer him the adventures he enjoys once he has settled.”

“A big bouncy boy who came into us through no fault of his own,” Chopper’s page states. “As he is still young and energetic, Chopper will need his own private and secure garden with 6ft fencing to play and zoom around in.

“Chopper could potentially live with a well matched canine friend following a successful meet at our centre and could live with children aged 8+. Could you offer Chopper his forever home?”

Alfie

Over at Kenilworth Dogs, Trust, little Alfie, a Lhasa Apso Cross, needs somewhere he can chill out.

“Meet 11 year old Alfie who is ready to find his paw-fect retirement home,” the charity’s website states. “Despite his years he still loves to get out and about exploring. Alfie has previously been in a home where he was housetrained although he may need a little refresher as he settles back into life in a home.

“Alfie hasn’t had much experience of being left so he would prefer adopters who can be home with him and gradually build up any time being left. He would love adopters who can continue his ongoing training, like learning to wear a muzzle for when he sees the vet.

“As he’s such a foodie, he always aims to please when a snack is involved! Alfie enjoys exploring new places, but can get a little overwhelmed when seeing other dogs out on his walkies. For this reason he would do best with access to quiet walking areas and he would love a secure garden all of his own where he can run and play all he wants! He will also need to be the only pet in his forever home.

“With his fabulous coat he requires regular grooming to keep himself looking his best, so his new family will need to feel confident continuing this. We think he would be best suited to a home with older children of 14+.”

Pixie

Pixie, the Italian Corso is described by the Kenilworth Dogs Trust as a “beautiful little lady who is ready to find her forever home”.

“We sadly know very little about her past but she’s shown us what a sweet girl she is,” her page reads. “She is slowly finding her paws discovering the big, wide world at her own pace. Pixie absolutely adores food, sausages are her favourite treat! They’re the perfect way to earn her trust, and before long she’ll be leaning in for snuggles and affection.

“She’s looking for a patient and understanding home that can support her as she learns the basics, such as housetraining, spending time alone, and building confidence.

“She would love her own safe and secure garden to play in and explore and would be best suited to a home without any neighbouring dogs. She enjoys her walkies and in quiet areas is a pro at walking loose lead.

“We think she’d love having access to a secure field where she can in some zoomies and some all important sunbathing too! Pixie would thrive in a calm home with adults only who can respect her boundaries and give her the time and space she may need.

“She will need to be the only pet in the home and would benefit from access to quiet walking areas, as she can be nervous around other dogs. She’s currently getting used to wearing a muzzle on walks to help her feel more secure.”
