The Prince and Princess of Wales have released a charming new family photograph to commemorate 15 years of marriage.
The couple tied the knot on this day at Westminster Abbey in 2011 in a spectacular ceremony, and to celebrate their wedding anniversary, William and Kate have shared a fresh image of themselves soaking up the sun with their children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
The photograph captures them lying barefoot in the grass with their pet dogs, with the previously unseen snap taken by photographer Matt Porteous during their family Easter break in Cornwall. It is captioned: “Celebrating 15 years of marriage” with a heart emoji.
In the picture, Louis has his legs draped over Kate as the family of five – all wearing shorts except Kate – lie side by side in a line, with their black cocker spaniel Orla appearing next to William.
Also featured is the Waleses’ second dog, a brown spaniel, which the couple kept from one of Orla’s litters last year, whose name remains undisclosed. William was photographed with the puppies, gazing at one of the brown ones, in a post marking his birthday last year, reports the Mirror.
The pair are marking their crystal anniversary today, while William’s father, the King, is currently undertaking his state visit to the United States. The couple first crossed paths over 20 years ago at the University of St Andrews in Fife, initially becoming friends before their relationship blossomed into romance. Following their Westminster Abbey ceremony, the newlyweds shared a kiss on the Buckingham Palace balcony before jubilant onlookers. The bride was stunning in an elaborate ivory Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen creation featuring delicate lace applique florals, while the groom cut a dashing figure in the red tunic of the Irish Guards. The couple welcomed Prince George two years later, followed by Princess Charlotte in 2015 and Prince Louis in 2018.
A great deal has transformed since their nuptials 15 years ago; beyond welcoming their three youngsters, their royal duties shifted dramatically when they became the Prince and Princess of Wales following the late Queen’s passing in 2022.
They’ve also navigated William’s fractured relationship with his brother Prince Harry, alongside what William characterised as a ‘brutal’ 2024 marked by Kate’s cancer diagnosis and ensuing chemotherapy.
Last year brought the welcome news of her remission, with the Waleses embarking on a fresh chapter by relocating to the eight-bedroom Forest Lodge in Windsor Great Park during autumn.
With Kate now in remission and the couple having settled into Forest Lodge last year, former BBC royal correspondent Jennie Bond shared with the Mirror: “As they celebrate 15 years of marriage – and some 25 years together – their relationship is looking more solid and loving than ever.
“Slowly, tentatively, I think William and Catherine are beginning to look to the future with confidence. As each year passes, and the trauma of the cancer diagnosis and treatment begins to fade, they must be feeling more reassured. Not that they will ever get over it – or the fear of it – and I’m sure it has changed them forever. As Catherine herself has said, cancer changes your perspective on everything in life.
“Perhaps the biggest change has been the proof that their love has simply become deeper as they battle the huge problems that have come their way: her cancer, the King’s simultaneous diagnosis, the bitter rift with Harry and Meghan and the intense pressure of the scandal surrounding Uncle Andrew.
“The worse the problems, the more we have seen William and Catherine standing shoulder to shoulder, often holding hands or giving one another a reassuring pat, facing the public and getting on with their work.”
For Jennie, it is the Prince and Princess of Wales’s united approach that has been the cornerstone of their enduring marriage. She went on to say: “I always remember William’s mother, Diana, telling me that she and Charles ‘would have made such a great team’. Well, I think her son and his wife are doing just that. Neither tries to overshadow the other, they are relaxed and informal on public duties and always seem to find something to laugh about together.
“They give the impression of being the very best of friends; and, of course, friendship – dating back to those early years at university – is the foundation on which their marriage is built.”
